Welcome to 2015!!

It’s the start of a new year – so come and enjoy all that is on offer in our senior and junior school libraries. Stop by to grab a good read, get some pointers on how to locate info you need or just to say hello!  Our dedicated Library Staff will be only too happy to assist you!

As a great kick off to the year, enjoy this fabulous clip made by well published author George Ivanoff who, we are proud to say, is an Old Mentonian!  If you haven’t read one of his books yet, this video, made to promote his participation in the Somerset Celebration of Literature being held on the Gold Coast in March, is sure to inspire you!!

George Ivanoff Studio 3 guest appearance

Faithful followers of this blog and the goings-on in the GFL will know the name “George Ivanoff”. George was our National Year of Reading Patron in 2012, has worked with Year 9 and 10 in Writing Workshops, and often comes to school to hangout at the MGRA Meet-Ups organised by Mrs Novak.

George has his own blog here, which is where we found the link to this hilarious clip.

George was recently a guest in Studio 3, and here is a clip of him being interviewed by Liv and James. Enjoy!

And if you’d like to see George sans pies, you can watch a much more sedate version of the interview here.

Book Club has a Guest Speaker

How a cover is chosen

Special visitor for the GFL Student Book Club

On Friday 25th March we were very fortunate to have George Ivanoff, local author and past Mentone Grammar student, visit our Book Club lunchtime meeting.  George told us how authors go through the publishing process from great idea to a book ready for us to read.  Gamer’s Challenge, the sequel to his novel Gamers’ Quest will soon be released and the students were most interested in the factors that influenced the choice of the cover for this new book.

The rest of the meeting went in a flash as George sat down to light refreshments and lots of questions from the students present.

George will be at Dymocks Bookstore (L3 opposite the Food Court) at Southland between 11am and 12pm on Saturday 23rd April for a book signing session for his new book.  Free book marks and stickers will be on offer and George would love to see book club members there for the signing.
