How lucky are we!? James Roy, multiple award-winning Australian author, has taken the time to visit us and talk to students from Years 8, 9 and 10 as well as Book Club members. Sharing stories of his childhood, some becoming the basis for his published works, he entertained his listeners about his experience as a writer. He emphasised the nature of the ‘stories’ to be found in non-fiction texts encouraging students to read widely. James also shared with his audience the steps to creating their own engaging stories. A dissection of the story behind Shrek provided an amusing example that his audience could relate to. When asked by one keen attendee ‘Got a tip for writers?’ James’ response came as fast as lightening: “Read! Read widely ….. and take advantage of your Teacher Librarians!”
